Book
The book The Nature of Economies by Jane Jacobs discusses the relationship between humans and nature. Jacobs argues that humans are part of nature and that this fact, despite the positions of economists, politicians or others, cannot be denied or circumvented. Sociologist Jacobs became known for her critical view on conventional urban planning. She approaches and compares the problems associated with the development of cities with those of complex organizations and systems.
Book
In The Second Machine Age by Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee, affiliated with the prestigious MIT University, they reflect on the perspective and rate of development of technology. But the authors also discuss the downside of this development: technology outpaces humans and organizations and leaves us with question marks. Digital technology will be capable of much in the near future: from diagnostics, self-driving cars to replacing the cashier. The book argues the need for a broad societal discussion about (ethical) values as a result of technological progress.
Short Film
The short film Sacred Economics outlines the history of money. From the old patron to modern capitalism. This film explains how the 'money' system has contributed to alienation, competition, scarcity, differences and endless growth. Today, this development is reaching its peak and we can expect in its wake the transition to a more connected, ecological and sustainable way of doing things.
